No racing this month ! We decided that I didn’t need to race Madrid. We had been away a long time and my form was good, so it wasn’t going to achieve anything racing again. And Kitzbuhel was definitely considered, but again  Marc and I decided that my preparation for Hyde Park worked really well last year and we’d try and replicate it again. Training has gone well, not perfect, because I’ve had a little knee niggle that has been a bit annoying, but I’m really happy with where I’m at with five weeks to go.

I have ventured out of Wales a couple of times. Firstly to the GE Blenheim Triathlon which was a couple of full on days. I had photos and interviews on Friday and then started a few waves for the Saturday races and met lots of GE competitors who had just raced. And the most significant thing was Marc and I, with the help of Andrew, seeing off the Brownlee boys at the Master Chef “cook off” – our quail was gorgeous!

The other event was the Team GB kitting out at Loughborough. It’s a mission to drive up there but so worth it. It really brings home that you have been selected for the Games. And you get so much kit, the car was full on the way home. It was also good to see Vicky and Lucy.

I’m happy with who the selectors have picked for the team. I’m not going to get drawn into a war of words on the merits of others or who else might have been picked. As far as I’m concerned, everyone knew what the selection policy was and all agreed to it. What I will say is that the Olympics comes round every four years and I am determined to perform to the best of my ability at it. There’s an argument to say that it won’t be the strongest field (the top eight nations can only take 3 athletes) but then it’s a race that can bring you the most glory, so people are prepared to take bigger risks to win, so it will be interesting to say the least! Hopefully as many of you can make it along on Saturday 4th to Hyde Park and make home advantage really count !
